Buhari Vs Obasanjo: 16bn Power Project – Obasanjo Hits Buhari Hard
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Tuesday that he is ready to face probe over $16 billion power project alleged to have been mismanaged by his administration.
He said this while reacting to a jibe by President Muhammadu Buhari that the Obasanjo administration spent $16 billion on electricity but had nothing to show for it.
Few hours that Buhari made the taunt, the media aide to the former president, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi released a press statement, describing Buhari as lacking correct information.
The statement noted that Buhari’s ignorance and his recent comment on Obasanjo was the only re-echoing allegation that was never substantiated against his predecessor.
Obasanjo said that he was amazed that Buhari could utter such statement despite that records from the National Assembly had exonerated him from any wrongdoing about the power sector during his tenure.
The statement explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had thoroughly investigated the $16 billion power project and that his well-publicized book “My Watch” dealt extensively on the issue to clear the former president of any wrongdoing.
The statement called on President Buhari and his co-travellers to read chapters 41, 42, 43 and 47 of “My Watch” to get quality information on the $16 billion power project between 1999 and 2007 when Obasanjo was in office.
Obasanjo said that Buhari should endeavour to read or direct his aides to do so and summarise it to him in the language he could understand.
