2019 Election: Atiku May Join SDP
There are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
A source within the SDP told our correspondent that negotiation is going on to usher in the former Vice President as its presidential candidate in 2019 election.
He said that many of Atiku’s supporters in Adamawa State had since decamped from PDP to SDP as plans were being put together to bring Atiku to the party.
This was revealed as the National Publicity Secretary of SDP, Alfa Mohammed disclosed yesterday that about five governors and 20 senators had also signified their intention to join SDP.
Though he could not say if Atiku would be joining SDP now, Mohammed noted that the former vice president would be welcomed into the party if he decides to come.
Atiku was one of the founding fathers of SDP and actually stepped down for the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola at the party primaries.
Atiku who was also one of the founding fathers of the PDP quit the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC. He went back to PDP late last year to realize his presidential ambition.
However, it appears that there may not be any chance for him in PDP as he strategises to move to SDP.
