Adeyaju Battered, Sowore Released
ElevateNews takes a look at the attack on a human rights crusader, Mr. Deji Adeyanju.
He is a human rights crusader but his own rights suffered on Monday when street urchins attacked him in Abuja.
Deji Adeyaju had a letter to submit to the NHRC in protest against the continuous detention of Mr. Omoyele Sowore who has been in the custody of the Department of State Service for more than three months now.
Sowore, a convener of the #RevolutionNow protest and Publisher of the online medium, Sahara Reporter is facing charges that border on treason.
The Federal High Court has granted him bail but the DSS would not release him.
Adeyanju whom himself was released from the DSS custody a few months ago had led a group to National Human Rights Commission but was attacked by the mob who claimed to be pro-President Muhammadu Buhari.
The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions such as, “When security is threatened, human rights take the second position battered Adeyanju even in the presence of the police.
None of them has been arrested and it seems that they are State organised mob against the human rights crusader.
Recall that these pro-government protesters were around when the operatives of the DSS invaded the court to abduct Sowore recently.
Their song was to defend their mandate and that they would use any means to send the message against any anti-Buhari protest.
To these urchins, many of whom do not even understand the purpose of their protest, Adeyanju and Sowore want to topple Buhari’s government.
These urchins are easily available at every motor park in Abuja as an instrument in the hands of politicians.
They will ever be there because the political elites want it that way. They are uneducated and very dangerous.
Only God saved Adeyanju as he escaped by the whisker. Perhaps the urchins should know that Adeyanju was not out to fight a personal battle but a protest to free many, including these hired pro-Buhari protesters.
What if Adeyanju was killed in the process of attacking him, the government would have denied.
One will not be surprised if the media aides of the government will allege the Adeyanju’s group of attacking themselves to smear the government.
As a matter of fact, the aides, Mr. Femi Adesina and his colleague, Mallam Garba Shehu alleged that Sowore group staged the theatre that happened at the Federal High Court recently.
It is quite unfortunate that mob could attack a Nigerian because he had protested against the government and police will not say anything.
This is a dangerous signal in that is undemocratic and against the culture of peaceful protest.
It may spur a clash of pro and anti-government protesters, which of course may lead to State of unrest if care is not taken.
However, on Tuesday, the Federal Government obeyed court order to release Sowore and the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
