Ambode And Imminent Price of Disloyalty
Nigeria News takes a look at the rumour that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode may be working for
It is normal that Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode will be reluctant to campaign for Jide Sanwo-Olu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the state.
Sanwo-Olu had emerged the APC candidate in a primary that Ambode described as charade. This is the first time an incumbent governor would be edged out for second term bid in Lagos and Ambode happens to be the man in the history.
The party added salt to Ambode’s injury when he nominated him and his counterpart for Borno, Kashim Shettima to pacify the aggrieved APC members in the state.
In this case, Ambode who is the chief aggrieved person is in the position to pacify himself and his supporters who believe that they have been cheated.
Ambode should be commended for playing that role and being a good pretender in the current movie
Shettima described Ambode as his own politician of the year, having
Ambode has been playing along anyway but there are whispers that the governor is secretly working with the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure that the APC cum Sanwo-Olu loses the coming election.
A few weeks ago, one of his loyalists and the state Commissioner for Energy, Mr Olawale Oluwo resigned from his cabinet and quickly decamped to the PDP.
An investigation revealed that Oluwo was very close to the PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje and that he was being used to serve as an
It was also gathered that all efforts to collapse Ambode’s team with that of Sanwo-Olu to make a solid campaign team had been frustrated by the governor, meaning that he was not ready to work with the APC candidate.
Only a few number of men can help his adversaries climb the ladder of success. Ambode is a human being and it will take him strong courage to go out with Sanwo-Olu, a man that is seriously seeking his seat.
As at Monday, it was not yet clear if the Lion of Bourdillon, the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would address the Ambode and Sanwo-Olu’s teams to work together. The former Governor of the State, Tinubu may work out a new penalty for Ambode if it is established that the incumbent is actually working against the APC.
This is where Ambode must be very careful not to pay a big price of disloyalty both to APC and Tinubu who brought him on board about four years ago.
He should be told about the history of Lagos politics and how deputy governors were removed abruptly by the state House of Assembly on the advice of Tinubu.
Ambode should learn from the past that he is wining with political monsters who care less about him. It does not take these politicians anything to work for the impeachment of Mr Ambode and remove him before the 2019 election.
