Ambode: Living In A Rented Apartment
Nigeria News takes a look at the doggedness of Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode as he manoeuvres to make Tinubu succumb to the plea of some people.
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode is not ready to give up on his bid for the second term. He has run a long distance to keep his seat in the last few weeks more than what he has run in the last four years.
The governor has found it difficult to sleep. This is not the time for governance, Ambode is in the most critical hour of making the best of his propitiation to calm the angry members of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
He has been moving from one party leader to another, seeking forgiveness from his godfather and erstwhile Lagos Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
As much as difficult the situation looks like, now for Ambode, I think Tinubu may succumb to so many forces that have been begging him to support the erring governor for the second time.
Severally, Tinubu had said that he had no problem with Ambode’s second term ambition but that he could not single-handedly impose him on the party.
The Lagos APC will be using a direct primary option to choose its candidate and with the way things are going, many of the party members will prefer a former state commissioner Jide Sanwo-Olu to Ambode.
Tinubu must be in a serious dilemma, now that President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and many state governors are pleading with him to endorse Ambode. It was gathered that he wept at one of the meetings to endorse Ambode.
If Ambode will succeed himself, it will be at a cost in which strong agreement will be signed between him and the party, including Sanwo-Olu who will be dropping his ambition. This is where Ambode must be very careful so as not to create big problems for himself in his second coming.
He has been living in a rented apartment and must act more like a tenant now, without which he would be booted out through impeachment. Tinubu has made Ambode understand that he is the owner of the structure and will decide who can build on it.
Over the years, Tinubu has been accused of imposing candidates on the party but as at today, the APC national leader has agreed to a direct primary in which members can choose their candidates, yet the formula has become a big problem for many APC incumbent governors.
Perhaps, that was why he cried. Human wishes are insatiable. All the ambitious aspirants in Lagos want to ride on Tinubu to realise their dreams but will always kick when the formula does not favour them.
I have always asked, who among these politicians can bankroll big election? None, of course, they live as tenants, seeking a temporary apartment to launch their ideas. They care less about how the party is being funded when they get to power.
Yes, Ambode has done some good jobs in Lagos, he may not have become governor without the party. Elected leaders must always look back, check the constitution of the party and its manifestos each time they form policies to govern the citizens.
