Ambode Visits Accident Scene On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Sympathises With Victims’ Families
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has visited the scene of the accident that claimed the lives of scores of people along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.
The governor was at the scene Thursday night as he expressed grieve over the tragedy in which no fewer than 50 vehicles also got burnt.
At the scene, on Otedola Bridge, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode sympathized with the families of the victims on behalf of Lagos State and the Federal Governments.
Describing the incident as very regrettable, the governor said that those who sustained burnt injury had since been taken to the hospital and that the government would ensure they were well treated.
While warning tanker drivers to be mindful of reckless driving on the roads, the governor urged motorists to always be safety conscious.
Earlier, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority had said that nine people died in the inferno but eyewitnesses said the number was higher.
The metropolis was thrown into heavy traffic on Thursday, following the accident as commuters resorted to trekking to get to their various destinations.
Commercial vehicles increased transport fares due to the scarcity of buses on the road while many commuters were stranded.
