ANALYSIS: Coalitions, Corrections As APC, APM, PDP Struggle For Ogun Govt House
Nigeria News takes a look at the ongoing coalitions and corrections in Ogun Politics.
The gubernatorial election in Ogun State on Saturday will be an
It was a coalition that delivered the state to Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011. A coalition involving the former Governor of the state Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Ladi Adebutu also ensured Amosun’s return to office in 2015.
The interests in Ogun State are many. Without a solid coalition among relevant political parties and individuals with clout, a single political party cannot make it near Oke Mosan, the government house.
Surprisingly and despite being the prominent member of the Atiku Abubakar campaign team, the former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is currently on the side of the people with his support for Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress.
Of course, the Saturday governorship election is a local poll for somebody like Daniel who is preparing to come back home after his party had lost at the national level.
In Ogun State at present, there are two PDP gubernatorial candidates Buruji Kashamu and Oladipupo Adebutu. The party is divided and very clear now that the PDP supporters are in disarray of what to do.
However, the Young Turks of the Adebutu side, who firmly believes the Next Level is better than a Third Term agenda being sponsored by the incumbent Governor and senate-elect Ibikunle Amosun has given his support to Abiodun.
But APC leaders in Ogun State MUST not go to bed yet, believing that all is well. Senator Buruji Kashamu does not have serious support beyond the six local government of Ijebuland. There are many among his supporters, who should be wooed by the APC if the party must win on Saturday.
The leaders need to encourage Senator-elect Tolu Odebiyi more. Once he is able to network properly with Biodun Akinlade in that axis with quality Awori leaders being on board, it will be
I dare say that Dapo Abiodun will claim Ogun Central Senatorial District for APC. The African Democratic Congress’ candidate, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka is on standby as a spoiler in this election in that he is out to share the Awori votes with APM, Akinlade.
Amosun is making all efforts to impress the civil servants by returning the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Akeem Ambali.
The labour leader was sacked alongside 15 other workers in October 2016 by Governor Amosun. The President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba had had
However, sensing the implication of his past as the state goes to the poll to elect a new governor, Amosun quickly rescinded his decision as he announced the reinstatement of Ambali and others on Tuesday.
