ANALYSIS: Makinde’s Show of Class In Oyo State
Nigeria News takes a look at the Oyo State
The Oyo State Governor-elect, Engr. Seyi Makinde has hit the ground running even when he has not taken oath of office.
Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) beat the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayo Adelabu in the state governorship election nine days ago.
Makinde’s election is a true reflection of the will of the people as there is a sudden calm in Ibadan the capital of Oyo State and its environs.
The earlier agitation by the supporters of the APC did not last. The thuggery activities were abated as soon as the loser in the election congratulated the winner.
I have not met Makinde before but his words and gesture in the last few days that he attained stardom are encouraging.
Makinde’s carriage, confidence and his visits to some prominent Nigerians suggest to me that the incoming Oyo State Governor is prepared to redefine the politics of the Pacesetter State.
First is his visit to Olusegun Obasanjo where he was advised by the former president to rebuild the centre of southwest politics and show that he is the real man.

Makinde was at the University of Ibadan where he made personal donation N25 million to the institution to repair some of the institution’s structures that were damaged by rainstorm recently.

Makinde studied engineering at the University of Lagos. He has a stint in politics of Oyo State some years ago but was not successful.
His victory two Saturdays ago is what the PDP needs to relaunch itself into southwest politics.
A faction of the Pan Yoruba Socio-political group, Afenifere led by Senator Ayo Fasanmi once threw up the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi as a possible presidential aspirant for APC in 2023.
The APC may want to zone the presidency to the region but here is a new beloved Governor-elect of Oyo State, Makinde who has suddenly become a star in the midst of all this Permutation.
He is highly embraced by the PDP stalwarts, including its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Makinde’s new stature if well managed can go a long way to command bigger office in the future.
He has not been tested anyway, there is no doubt that he will be a listening leader that can rival any APC candidate from the southwest.
As we leave our fingers crossed, we await Makinde to show the
