APC’s Shows Of Shame: Amosun’s Thuggery, Buhari’s Body Language
Nigeria News takes a look at the APC campaign in Ogun and how it turned rowdy.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun showed the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday that he is closer to President Muhammadu Buhari and that he understands him more than many of them.
Of course, Amosun is supposed to know Buhari better, having being in the ANPP together before their party metamorphosed to APP and the consequent merger with ACN to become APC.
Amosun showed that he could use thuggery to control the crowd at the APC rally held inside the MKO Abiola Stadium. He actually succeeded, even in the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is a big shame to APC and slap on leaders like the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, the National Chairman of the APC and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole who were on the podium to campaign for Buhari.
Amosun acted like a sophisticated illiterate as he made his incoherent speech to de-market the APC governorship candidate for the state, Dapo Abiodun.
He supervised the removal of Abiodun’s postal and asked the electorate to vote for Buhari during the presidential election on February 16 but should not vote for the APC governorship candidate on March 2.
Amosun messed up the President and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday with his seditious statements, which evetually led to a serious uproar at the venue as his supporters pelted the APC National Chairman, Oshiomhole with stones.
The Amosun’s supporters ensured that Oshiomhole did not present Abiodun to the crowd. They also booed other leaders, including Buhari himself.
To me, Buhari should be blamed for all these irrationalities. The president has taken too many chances and has allowed Amosun to ride on his weakness. Buhari has failed APC and by extension Nigerians who still believe in his leadership.
For Buhari to have received the Amosun’s Allied Peoples Movement governorship candidate, Adekunle Akinlade in Aso Rock shows how weak and how not to do politics the president has turned democracy to in
In other hands, the APC leadership has allowed Buhari’s body language to dictate the control of the party internal machinery.
Why did the party refuse to suspend Amosun despite his anti-party activities? Why did the party allow Amosun to parade his APM candidate at the APC rally to the extent that personalities were pelted with stones?
This is a man that once described the party leadership in Lagos as Capo de tutti who have come to impose a candidate on Ogun State. Amosun himself has become a godfather that has allowed his personal interest to becloud the party’s agenda.
On Monday, Amosun did not only expose the crack in APC,
Buhari’s behaviour on Monday also showed that the APC has thrown up a man whose ideology is about himself but not the party or any other aspiring candidates.
When he spoke that the electorate should choose whom their governor should be, Tinubu simply walked out of the arena. It is a pity.
