Appeal Court Affirms Obaseki As Edo Governor
The Appeal Court has affirmed the election of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
The court read its verdict on Friday, validating the election petition tribunal judgment of Obaseki as the governor of Edo State.
The PDP and its candidate, Ize Iyamu, had challenged Obaseki’s election, alleging manipulation of the governorship election.
Recalled that the tribunal recently upheld the election of Obaseki, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Meanwhile, Iyamu and PDP had reacted swiftly that it would challenge the Appeal Court verdict at the Supreme Court.
However, there is jubilation in the camp of the APC as friends and party stalwarts described the Appeal Court judgment as victory for democracy.
The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun who happens to have hailed from Edo State hailed the Appeal Court judgment.
He noted that Obaseki actually won the gubernatorial election in the state, free and fair and that there is no way the PDP could rule the state from the back door.
The national leadership of the party, according to information reaching our correspondent had been sending congratulatory messages to the governor.
Obaseki is yet to issue an official statement over his victory at the Appeal Court.
