Archbishop Mgr Jean Marie Benoît Balla of Bafia Commits Suicide
A clergyman, Archbishop Mgr Jean Marie Benoît Balla of Bafia, Cameroon, has drowned himself to death in Sanaga River around the Ebebda Bridge in Cameroon.
According to report, the cleric had parked his Land Cruiser SUV with registration plate number CE 9503V beside the river and took a dive, taking his own life in the process.
The Catholic community launched a search for the clergyman and eventually found his vehicle on the Ebebda Bridge Wednesday afternoon – about 90km from Yaounde.
The Archbishop left in his car, his ID card, vehicle documents and his driver’s license.
He also left a note, which read,“Je suis dans l’eau”, translated to mean “I am in the water” in English Language.
Governor of the Centre region, the Divisional Officer of the locality and other administrative authorities Naseri Paul Bea, confirmed the death as they were seeing at the scene of the incident.
The Divisional Officer, D.O, of Ebebda, said he got to know about the incident from a Rev. Father who. “It happened at about 1pm,” he said.
According to Ebebda, the note left by the bishop revealed that he had jumped into the river. “When we visited the place, we saw his car and the note, which read that he was inside the water,” he said.
