Armed Policemen Deploy In NHIS
Scores of policemen have been deployed in the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS headquarters in Abuja.
Their motive is to prevent a breach of the peace by some members of staff of NHIS that are against the controversial reinstatement of the Executive Secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf.
It was gathered that a group of protesters would be storming the place to express their support for Yusuf, a move the NHIS union had vowed to stop.
The union said that it would stop whatever solidarity protest for Yusuf, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Yusuf is accused of perpetrating fraud to the tune of N919m. The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole set up a committee to investigate the matter.
The report of the committee had since been submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari reinstated Yusuf despite that the report indicted him.
Unionists at the NHIS have therefore grounded activities at the agency.
Speaking at the agency on Monday, the Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria at the NHIS, Mr Razaq Omomeji, told members not to be intimidated.
Omomeji said the persons coming to protest were hired by Yusuf.
