As Osinbajo Rises From Carcass of Chopper
Nigeria News takes a look at the crash landing of the chopper that flew vice president Yemi Osinbajo and others to Kabba in Kogi State.
On June 7, 2018, the helicopter of vice president Osinbajo malfunctioned at Gwagwalada when it made a forced landing a few seconds after takeoff. But Saturday’s episode was really a close shave. This must stop. It’s embarrassing that our vice president chopper can be malfunctioning just like that.
The chopper with 10 persons on board, including the vice president and the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige crashed landed in Kabba, Kogi State as they were going on a political rally.
It was a loud bang. And before the dust could settle the vice president sauntered out of the debris uninjured, followed by 10 other passengers on board. Nobody had died except the helicopter that gave up the ghost.
In a short while, the media aide to the vice president, Mr Laolu Akande quickly went on twitter to announce the safety of his boss and other passengers on board.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar learnt about the incident and also took to his twitter handle as he thanked God for sparing the life of the Nigeria number two man.
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and many other national figures thanked God for taken care of a disaster that would have thrown the country into mourning.
On Sunday, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye preached about the carrier of God’s glory but spent some minutes to thank God for saving the life of Osinbajo, an ordained pastor of his church in the plane crash.
He reminded the congregation that God had promised to protect his own and that Osinbajo is God’s son and would not die now.
But I was amazed as I watched the video of the helicopter crash involving the Vice President and I sincerely think Osinbajo’s medical aides ought to have been fired by now.
The vice president and other members on board are not superhuman. They would have experienced shock, which to me should be the main reason why the physician should have asked them to take a rest instead of jumping into the campaign ground.
Why should they allow the VP to continue with his duties despite the magnitude of the crash, to the extent of even addressing a crowd?
What are they trying to prove? That the man is superhuman? You played with the life of the number two citizen just because you want to be politically correct.
In saner climes, he won’t even be allowed to stand up after being ferried to safety. He won’t leave the spot until he is properly attended to.
Some injuries and ailments cannot be immediately determined after an accident, the victim would be properly examined before proceeding with his duties.
And this is not just any victim, he is the Vice President for crying out loud. These dumps asses of a medical team need to be overhauled. I cry for my country.
