Atiku Condemns DSS Siege On NASS
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the barricade of the National Assembly by the operatives of the Department of State Service.
He said this via his verified Facebook page, adding that it is wrong for the operative to block the entrance of the NASS complex in a democracy where the legislative arm is independent.
Atiku frowned at the situation, saying that the constitution of Nigeria allows for the separation of powers and independence of the legislature.
Earlier this morning the DSS operatives barred the legislators and members of staff from accessing the National Assembly Complex.
The operatives also stopped the Clerk of the Senate from entering the complex. It took the doggedness of some of the senators to force themselves into the complex.
According to Atiku, there is a need for President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to challenge this anomaly.
The former vice president stated that the mission of the DSS at the National Assembly negated the spirit of fair play in a democratic setting, describing it as a replica of what happened in Benue State where eight members of the state House of Assembly planned to impeach a sitting governor.
