Badoo Shrines: The Concocted Lies Of Police And Suspect

By  |

Nigeria News look at the controversy surrounding the arrest of Badoo mastermind and the revelation of shrines.

Barely 48 hours that the police made it public that it had arrested one Alhaji Alaka Abayomi in connection with badoo ritual killing of a family of five in Ibeshe area of Lagos, the residents of Ikorodu have been warming up to launch attack at the suspect.

But they have been cautious, following the cry of the suspect that he is not in the police custody as reported in the media and that he has no hands in the dreaded Badoo attacks in Ikorodu and other areas of the state, including Ogun State.

The police had told journalists about three days ago that they had arrested Abayomi and that the man had confessed to be one of badoo sponsors.

The police also said that the suspect confessed of working with two other people who are presently at large.

It went further to show to journalists about five shrines and houses allegedly being used by badoo for rituals.

The news went viral in the social media but was short-lived when Abayomi refuted the police claims, adding that he was only invited by the law enforcement agent on July 30 and released on August 1.

In a statement made available to our correspondent by his lawyer, Mr. Bartholomew Aguegbodo, Alhaji Abayomi said he was in his house at Magodo area of Lagos when the police came and while in their custody, they did not ask him any question about badoo cult. “All what they asked me was about my business and where it is located,” Abayomi said.

He stated that he was in his house as at the time a national newspaper reported that he was in police custody and that he knew nothing about badoo killings.

He said that the police lied about him leading them to any shrine in Ikorodu and that the only house he has in Ikorodu is for his business.

“I did not write any statement while in police custody and I wouldn’t have followed the detectives that came to my house if not because they said my attention was needed by the state Deputy Commissioner of Police Edgal. When I got to the police station, they just put me in cell without telling me the offence I committed,” Abayomi said.

Abayomi denied speaking to the press, as reported in the media. “I did not grant any interview to any journalist over a confession I never made,” he expressed his anger.

However, the Lagos State Police Command led by the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said that Alhaji Abayomi was still in his custody.

The police said that the suspect actually took the detectives to those five shrines and that was why the event was recorded and reported in the media.

Between the police and the suspect, there have been some concocted lies, which the public is yet to unravel. The suspect, Alhaji Abayomi had failed to disclose the kind of business he does that would warrant him to have five shrines.

When did an Alhaji become an idol worshipers managing five shrines? These are some of the questions the public would love to have answers for, possibly from the police or the suspect.

As at Friday, information reaching our desk showed that the suspect had since left Lagos for Ogbomoso in Oyo State where he hailed from. It was also reported that Alhaji Abayomi had met with the Soun of Ogbomosho to wade into the current problem.
