Budget Padding: All Progressives Congress (APC) Says No Sanction for Alleged Members

The All Progressives Congress, APC will not sanction any members of the party that has been mentioned in the allegation of 2016 budget padding in the House of Representatives.

The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the party, Senator Lawal Shuaibu said this on Friday, adding that none of the alleged members had contravened the party constitution and therefore they cannot be sanctioned.

Prominent on the list of those mentioned in the budget padding are the Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, his deputy Yusuf Lasun.

The former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin had alleged that the house principal officers and some committee chairmen padded the budget to the tune of over N400 billion.

The police set up special investigative panel led by Amodu Ali to probe the allegation, following Jibrin petition to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The party leadership also set up a committee to look into the matter and come out with recommendations.

Speaking, Shuaibu said that the party had been doing a lot of work and would not like to make it a public consumption for now.

He said that there was nothing like budget padding in the party’s constitution and that the party would address the whole show based on what the constitution had spelled out.

Though, he explained that the allegation would not be swept under the carpet, adding that all the aggrieved members would be pacified in the interest of the party while the government would also take good steps in the interest of the public.

“What is padding? The party does not sanction anybody on that. What concerns us is where any member contravenes the party constitution in his conduct.

‘’That is why I referred you to Article 7 subsection 5 of our party constitution. We are not a law enforcement organization and so we do not enforce law.

He said that the party’s intervention did not stop police investigation but that the party had only taken steps to ensure that the two members, Dogara and Jibrin are senior public officers that must embrace peace.
