Buhari Elated Over Re-Opening Of NAIA
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his delight at the speed at which the rehabilitation and conclusion of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was handled.
He commended the Ministries of Aviation, Transportation and Aviation for a job well done as the airport was reopened on Wednesday.
The president also commended the efforts of the Kaduna State Government for its accommodation during the period it served as the alternative for the NAIA.
The Federal Government had promised to repair the NAIA runway within six weeks but beat the deadline as Ethiopia Airline landed in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika had earlier said that he would resign his appointment.
However, he thanked all the ministries that were involved in the repair and also commended the expertise of Julius Berger, the construction firm that did the job.
In a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, President Buhari said he “looked forward to such display of inter-agency cooperation and efficiency in the operation of the entire Federal Government machinery.”
Sirika said that there was no need to delay the use of NAIA since the repair work had been completed, urging both the local and international airlines to take note.
A new Dreamliner Airbus A350 aircraft belonging to Ethiopian Airlines was the first international flight to land on the runway from Addis Ababa at exactly 12.07pm.
Some of the passengers on flight expressed their delight that they could land in Abuja.
