Buhari Seeks N242.4bn Senate Approval For 2019 Polls
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approve N242.4 billion as supplementary budget for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
In a letter read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki during plenary on Tuesday, Buhari proposed that N164.1 billion be expressly approved while the balance of N78 billion is earmarked for the personnel allowance in the 2019 budget.
He also gave a breakdown of how the funds would be distributed among relevant government agencies.
The President also asked the lawmakers to revisit the controversial N508b added to the initial proposal of N8.6trillion sent as 2018 budget.
In the meantime, the Senate confirmed the appointment of seven nominees as chairman and members of the Police Service Commission in compliance with the provisions of sections 153 and 154 of the 1999 constitution as amended.
Former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith was confirmed as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
Former Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and the immediate past Legal Adviser to the All Progressives Congress, Dr Muiz Banire was confirmed as the Chairman of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON.
