Buhari To Lay N8.6tn 2018 Appropriation Bill Before NASS On Tuesday
With all things being equal, President Muhammadu Buhari will be presenting before the National Assembly the 2018 appropriation bill on Tuesday, November 7.
The president had sent letters to the Senate and the House of Representatives to this effect.
However, while the Senate members agreed to receive the president, members of the House of Representatives disagreed, saying that the Federal Government should clear the 2017 budget before coming with another one.
The lawmakers echoed “No, No, No” as the Speaker of the house read the letters at the floor of the chamber on Thursday.
Some of them stated that the president should come between the hours of 11 am instead of the 2 pm in his letter.
However, Dogara told the lawmakers that the house had no right to stop the president from presenting the appropriation bill before the NASS.
On behalf of the lawmakers, Dogara accepted that the president should come on Tuesday.
The Federal Government plans to spend about N8.6tn next year, a jump of about 15 percent from the N7.44tn budgeted for the current year.
At the Senate, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki read the letter of President Muhammadu Buhari, which was accepted as he would be expected to lay the appropriation bill before the joint session of NASS on Tuesday.
