Buhari To Meet Former Presidents On Insecurity
President Muhammadu Buhari will be hosting past living presidents and head of government this morning at the Council of State to deliberate on the increase rate of insecurity in the country.
This is the third time Buhari will be having such meeting since he assumed office in 2015. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will also be at the meeting.
Former presidents that will be attending the meeting are Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Ernest Shonekan, Abdulsalam Abubakar and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
Also expected at the meeting are all the 36 states governors, all formers Chief Justice of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN).
At the meeting, the participants will advise the president on how to go about the insecurity across the country, especially on the herdsmen continuous attacks on communities.
The council also has the constitutional duties of advising the President in the exercise of his powers with respect to the national census, the Independent National Electoral Commission, a prerogative of mercy, the award of national honours, the National Population Commission and the National Judicial Council.
