Buhari’s Administration: Miyetti Allah As Sacred Cow
Nigeria News takes a look at the activities of Miyetti Allah and why police are silence on the group despite various allegations of killings
I have been waiting to read on the front page of newspapers that the police have invited the leadership of Miyetti Allah, the umbrella body of the Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria but I am yet to see such story.
It is going to be a big story because Nigerians will like to see the report of the police investigation of the Miyetti Allah over various allegations of killings in some parts of the country. There have been loads of allegations of killings against herdsmen, who are members of MACBAN.
Though the Chairman of MACBAN, Mohammed Hussein denied some of the allegations, it is not enough for the police not to investigate the group.
An online medium once published that the Miyetti Allah claimed to have killed hundreds of innocent citizens in Plateau State to retaliate against the loss of its 300 cows.
MACBAN quickly wrote a rejoinder to the management of medium to apologise for reporting such story while the reporter was sacked without thorough investigation.
It is not only those who are bereaved by the swords of the herdsmen that are mourning their loved ones, journalists who report Miyetti Allah must be less critical to save their skins.
The police had paraded some herdsmen in the last few weeks as suspects in the Benue, Plateau and Nassarawa attacks without their leaders. In fact, the leadership of Miyetti Allah were not even invited despite the allegations against them.
On Monday, President Muhamadu Buhari told a group of Christian leaders that it would be satanic for anybody to think he was aiding the killings by herdsmen or any group whatsoever.
The president is the patron of MACBAN and may have some questions to answer. He is of the view that the alleged killings by the herdsmen are political even though there are shreds of evidence that members of MACAN are involved in it.
The Senate invited the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris three times to explain why there is increasing rate of killings in the country, the man had refused to appear. And despite allegation against the Miyetti Allah, the leadership has never for once be invited by the police.
But the same police was quick to invite the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki over his alleged involvement in Offa bank robbery in which scores of people were killed.
The same police were quick to investigate Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West of alleged gunrunning and complicity in a robbery.
The police and the Nigerian Army were quick to write reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB be declared as a terror group and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu prosecuted.
But the police could not invite the leaders of MACBAN for questioning even if the allegation against the group could not be substantiated.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria is a sacred cow. Since he vowed to bring the killer herdsmen to book, the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier Gen. John Agim has not fulfilled his promise.
Nigerians are waiting to see the prosecution of MACBAN.
