Buhari’s Fraternity With Opposition Party; A Dangerous Signal In Ogun
Nigeria News takes a look at the visit of the Ogun State Governor alongside his anointed governorship candidate of APM to President Muhammadu Buhari.
A visit to Abeokuta, Ogun State revealed some funny scenes. It is about the poster of Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his anointed gubernatorial candidate, Adekunle Akinlade.
It is a poster comprising of two political parties, the All Progressives Congress and the Allied Peoples Movement. Amosun is vying for a senatorial seat under the APC while his protégé is contesting for the state governorship seat on the platform of the APM.
APC national body would only recognized Dapo Abiodun as its candidate, following the state primary that nearly made Amosun quit the party.
Amosun, after several attempts to confuse President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to accept his anointed candidate, Akinlade had to advise his supporters to defect to APM, including the candidate.
In other words, Amosun has been campaigning against the APC gubernatorial candidate, Abiodun but with the pledge to ensure greater number of votes for President Buhari from the state.
To Amosun, the APC candidate, Abiodun is a Lagos boy that the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the party are trying to impose on the Ogun State people.
What is currently going on in Ogun is a special case in which the sitting governor has physically remained in APC but sold his mind to APM.
Amosun is bent on serving as a
Amosun’s continuous stay in APC is defined by the presence of President Buhari who has been his close ally since their period in the All Progressives Party, APP.
On Sunday, Amosun alongside his APM governorship candidate, Akinlade visited Buhari at the Presidential Villa where they had a closed-door meeting.
With the picture of Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, with his Allied Peoples Movement protege, Adekunle Akinlade and Mr President, there is a bit of suspicion and this may not be good for APC.
APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was reportedly grilled by the Department of State Service a while back. That was a first for a ruling party in Nigeria, which had lost confidence in its official face to the extent of surrendering him to a law enforcement agency.
This one is also a first – a sitting President of a ruling Party openly ‘rolling’ with another figure – who has vowed to ensure that the Governorship candidate of Mr President’s political party loses the election.
The trio of the former acting National Chairman of the APC and former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are surely walking on a very tight rope.
Maybe, God has finally destined ADC’s Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka to be the next Governor of Ogun State. The former President Olusegun Obasanjo does not believe in neither Dapo Abiodun nor Adekunle Akinlade, the “Ebora Owu” prefers Isiaka.
