Buharis’ “My Wife Belongs In My Kitchen” Generates More Reactions
More reactions have continued to trail President Muhammadu Buhari’s response to his wife, Aisha’s statement on the running of the government.
President Buhari had said in faraway Germany that his wife belonged in his kitchen and had no knowledge of politics at all to dabble into the political atmosphere in the country at present.
As he put it during a chat with a reporter shortly after the meeting with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, “My wife belongs in my kitchen, sitting room and other rooms in my house.”
Buhari went further to say that the wife was to look after, adding the primary function of the wife was to take care of home.
Mrs. Buhari had said in an interview on BBC Hausa that some cabals had hijacked the government of her husband, calling for a shakeup.
She expressed her displeasure with some of the appointments made by her husband, which according to him were dominated by strangers whom she never met over 27 years of his marriage to Buhari.
She called for shakeup without which she might not campaign for the husband come 2019 presidential election.
Reacting, president Buhari said that he knew politics more than the wife, noting that the woman belongs in his kitchen and other rooms in his house.
While the public raged over the president’s comment, the Senior Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu described the statement as expression of humour.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari was just expressing his sense of humour and never meant to reduce his wife.
Also Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said that the president’s statement was quoted out of context and that he never meant to castigate the wife.
