Buhari’s Second Coming: Obono-Obla Becomes First Victim
ElevateNews takes a look at the suspension of the former Chairman of the Presidential Special Investigation
The Chairman of the Presidential Special Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, Okoi Obono-Obla becomes the first victim of the second coming of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He was suspended over various allegations, including financial misappropriation and fraudulent WASC results.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has since sent a letter to the embattled Obono-Obla with the instruction to make himself available to the Independent Corrupt Practice And Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC for further investigation into the allegations.
However, fresh facts have emerged that another letter had since been forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Solicitor-General of the Federation to sack Obono-Obla.
It was gathered that it became imperative for Buhari to suspend Obono-Obla, following a petition from the four other members of the PSIP over allegation of abuse of office and misconduct.
He became the first victim of the second coming of Buhari’s regime, which according to the investigation will not spare any government official found culpable over corruption.
Obono-Obla will definitely face prosecution not just in the area of financial misappropriation but also about a forged WASC.
The ICPC must beam its search light into the certificate issue.
It was learnt that Obono-Obla had forged the WAEC results, which of course he had used to rise to his present position. He is expected to prove that he has authentic results.
Of course, there have been diverse views on whether President Buhari whose WASC is also questionable has the moral justification to suspend Obono-Obla.
Buhari’s certificate sa
Buhari has come up with numerous evidence, including a picture he took when he acquired the Cambridge certificate. Obono-Obla will have to do the same to exonerate himself from this allegation.
Besides Obono-Obla, there are scores of public office holders that are currently parading fake credentials. The ICPC should not wait until the media expose a culprit before investigating our elected officials.
It took about eight years after she had served at the State and Federal level to detect that the former Minister of Finance. Kemi Adeosun was parading fake NYSC Excemption certificate.
Buhari has done well on this. This treatment should be extended to members of his cabinet. A thorough investigation must be carried out on each and every member of the incoming Federal Executive Council.
There should not be sacred cow if Buhari must have the support of Nigerians the second term.
Recall how former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami committed atrocities in the reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina in the first term of Buhari. Nothing was done by the president to address the anomaly.
Malami is back now in the cabinet. It took the singular stance of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to sack the former Secretary to Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal over allegation of misappropriation.
This is the first time Buhari will be taken a drastic stance against a public official on his own. I can only pray that Obono-Obla will not be a sacred cow.
