Buhari’s Spice of Lunch with State Governors In London
Nigeria News on Buhari’s London lunch. In his letter to the Guinean President, Alpha Conde, the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said he was making progress and would soon be returning to Nigeria on his doctor’s advice.
Buhari has been sick and currently in London for medicals. On Tuesday in his letter to Conte, the ailing president also accepted his nomination to lead campaign against corruption in the forthcoming African Union Summit.
No doubt, there are strong indications that the president is fast recovering from an undisclosed ailment that had kept him away from Nigeria for more than two months now.
The movement of Nigeria state governors to London in the recent time also suggests that Buhari can now host visitor and is not on life support machine as being insinuated by one state governor.
When four governors, including, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Abubakar Yari of Zamfara and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State sent a picture to the media that they had lunch with Buhari in London, their action was hit by criticism.
Nigerians demanded for more pictures to be sure that it was true that the governors actually met with the president, which of course the politicians did in less than 24 hours of releasing the first photograph.
While the first photograph showed Buhari where he was having lunch with the governors and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and the Minister of Transportation, the second portrait showed the cross section of the delegation.
The second picture threw up another round of debate in the media and political circle as many criticized the exclusion of President Muhammadu Buhari from it.
Does it mean that Buhari could not stand with the delegation to show to the world that he is strong enough to receive visitor or he has deliberately refused to do so?
This is one of the questions by the critics. However, while the censure over the pictures continues, the office of the National Security Adviser came up with a new arrangement for a new set of governors to visit the president.
The six governors were chosen from each of the six geopolitical zones of the federation, which comprises both governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the APC.
The governors are Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), including two other governors from the northern part of the country whose name were not mentioned.
The statement from the NSA, Babagana Monguno said that the governors would have lunch with Buhari.
Perhaps the governors would need to take a better photograph this time, Nigerians would not want to see an ailing president wining and dining in London with anxiety going on in Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, Adesina told journalists that nobody could say precisely when the president would be coming home.
He stated that the president would have to wait for doctor’s advice before taking any step.
