Buhari’s Team And Dangote’s Grains Of Wit
Nigeria News takes a look at the Buhari’s campaign team and the U-turn on Aliko Dangote.
Only a few successful business men will allow politics to rubbish their hard earned reputation, especially in Nigeria where the future looks so bleak.
The business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote just did the needful by asking the presidency to remove his name from the list of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Council.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, listing Dangote as one of the seven members of the Presidential Special Advisory Committee was dismissed by Adesina himself in less than 24 hours of its release.
The presidency was out to ride on the integrity of Dangote but its action boomeranged. It received public censure that forced Adesina to dismiss his own first statement.
It is a shame and slap on the media unit of the presidency. But the members of the public are suspicious that such error would not have been committed if Dangote has got nothing to do with the All Progressives Congress.
A figure of Dangote’s calibre will always have something to do with the Federal Government but not to the extent of choosing a preferred candidate between Atiku Abubakar of PDP and President Muhammadu Buhari of APC.
Of course, Adesina clarified that Dangote was not supposed to be on the list since he was not a card-carrying member of APC, he was silent on Femi Otedola, another business mogul among the seven-member-committee.
Perhaps, Otedola has not complained. If he does before night, there is possibility that Adesina will come up with another statement.
Dangote has shown wisdom by getting his name removed because the 2019 election may go either way. And if Atiku comes out victorious, it is obvious that the moneybags that are backing Buhari now may have some questions to answer.
The Buhari’s Campaign council encompasses various committees, including the Special Presidential Advisory Committe, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In this advisory committee are the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the party national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
But surprisingly, the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote and his closest rival, Femi Otedola made the list before APC made a U-turn on Dangote.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan condemned the inclusion of Dangote even before the list began to generate discordant views in the public domain.
To him, the inclusion of Dangote was a plan by APC to rubbish the industrialist whom he sees as a neutral and a non-partisan gentleman.
The APC as a party is trying to act holy when it is obvious that it is looking for an avenue to perpetrate electoral fraud. Nigerians will ask how APC is able to raise funds for the election despite the noise against corruption.
We were made to believe that a group of people bought nomination form for Buhari re-election. Now, the party is looking for who can front for it as it has prepared crook means to bankroll the coming election while pretending to be a
Even if Dangote will be doing this from the back door, the businessman has exonerated himself from the official list of prominent businessmen and politicians who are backing Buhari.
The businessman has got a good legal team who must have advised him to take a leave from the erroneous list.
Now a depleted list, it still has somebody like Oshiomhole whom over time has shown doggedness and uncompromising spirit that saw off traitors in the APC. He refused to bow to some APC heavyweights, including the
