Buhari’s Visit: Soldiers Seize Residents’ Phones
The visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos has led to some irregularities in some parts of the state as soldiers now seize residents’ telephone handsets in the guise of providing security.
On Victoria Island, the soldiers who had stationed themselves in some strategic places would not tolerate the citizens as they apprehended passersby who either received or made calls along the road.
Many of the passersby were stranded commuters who had to vacate the traffic logjams and trek to their various destinations.
Our correspondent observed that some of the commuters started making calls to inform their offices about the traffic situation but unfortunately, their telephone handsets were seized.
The armed soldiers could not offer any explanation for the seizure of the handsets but it appeared that they did so for security purpose.
President Buhari will be visiting Lagos to commission a modern Bus Terminal in Ikeja. He would also chair Bola Tinubu’s colloquium on Victoria Island after which he would flag off the construction of the Lekki Deep Seaport on Friday.
The State Government had declared Thursday as a work-free day for civil servants to receive the president who would be visiting Lagos for the first time since he assumed office about three years ago.
