“Capo Di Tutti” And Their Beneficiaries
Nigeria News takes a look at the mudslinging of the Lagos political lord by one of his beneficiaries, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Over the weekend, the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun described the Lagos political warlord, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as expansionist and qualified those in Tinubu’s group as “Capo di Tutti”.
Perhaps, Amosun knows a bit about the Italian culture where the supreme head of a crime is referred to as “Capo di Tutti” or it is just a slip of the tongue to address your benefactor as a criminal.
Amosun had quickly forgotten that he had to lean on Tinubu to seek and win his second term in Ogun State and in doing so, Tinubu had to part ways with one of his closest friends, the former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba.
Osoba never wanted Amosun but because of Tinubu’s involvement and investment, Amosun was elected for the second term. The governor cannot deny this. He understood how the game was played then by the people he is now referring to as “Capo di Tutti”.
Amosun is a beneficiary of these alleged criminal gangs in which Tinubu is a leader. The Capo di Tutti were saints before the Ogun State governorship primaries in which an oil magnate Mr Dapo Abiodun emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amosun’s anointed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade has lost out of the race and all efforts by the governor to change the status quo has proved abortive. His several journeys to Presidential Villa in Abuja to lobby President Muhammadu Buhari have failed as the National Working Committee of the APC stands firmly with Abiodun.
Amosun is desperate, no doubt. He has threatened to defect to another party with his supporters but observed that the APC was not troubled. Despite that the party had given him a senatorial ticket, Amosun was bent on imposing his gubernatorial candidate.
The devil is cunning and if Amosun now sees his benefactors as criminals, he must have aided and abetted crime to become what he is today. The devil will not bless you free of charge, there is always a price to pay.
Amosun should count himself lucky that he is the Ogun State Governor but not Lagos State where loyalty to the “Capo di Tutti” determines the second term in office for a sitting governor.
The “Capo di Tutti”, Adams Oshiomhole inclusive are not asking too much from Amosun. They only want the governor to support the APC candidate, Dapo and forget his own plan on Akinlade.
Amosun is angered that he could not have direct access to President Buhari anymore. The change agenda has changed that rapport. Such drama of shoving his colleagues to meet Buhari had long gone. The President prefers to listen to Tinubu now to sitting with Amosun whose ultimate goal is looking for a way to cover his dirty past.
Unlike the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode who has since agreed with destiny, Amosun is adamant as he threatens to dump APC. Ambode was a beneficiary of the “Capo Di Tutti” but paid with the second term in office.
