Children’s Day: Ensure Release of Leah Sharibu, Senate Tells FG
The Nigeria Senate on Thursday called on the Federal Government to ensure the release of the only Dapchi girl, Leah Sharibu who is still in the custody of Boko Haram before Children’s Day.
The Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Senator Binta Masi Garba (APC, Adamawa North) raised this in a motion entitled: “2018 Children’s Day Celebration.”
The motion was co-sponsored by Senators Fatima Raji-Rasaki (PDP, Ekiti Central); Stella Oduah (PDP, Anambra North); Monsurat Sunmonu (APC, Oyo Central); Rose Oko (PDP, Cross River North); Oluremi Tinibu (APC, Lagos Central); Biodun Olujimi (PDP Ekiti South); Yele Omogunwa (APC, Ondo South) and John Enoh (APC, Cross River Central).
According to Garba, Nigerian children are to be celebrated on Sunday and it will be more proper that Leah Sharibu is freed so that she could join millions of her peers to celebrate.
Leah Sharibu is a Christian girl who was refused freedom by the Boko Haram insurgents when 104 other pupils of the Government Technical and Science College, Dapchi, Yobe State abducted with her were set free.
She is still in the custody of Boko Haram.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government said that it is still negotiating with the terrorists to secure Leah Sharibu’s release.
