Churches Shut Due To Herdsmen Attack In Jalingo Nigeria
Some churches in Jalingo, Taraba State have closed due to incessant attack by herdsmen, our correspondent has learnt.
The popular Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Jalingo is one of the Christian worship centres that have been closed in the last one week due to herdsmen attack.
About three days ago, the herdsmen attack some Catholic priests in which two of them were shot at the legs.
The herdsmen also attacked some students at the seminary and had threatened to attack the security men guarding the area.
The investigation revealed that the security men had refused the herdsmen the right to graze their cattle around the seminary but the herders were bent on doing so.
The herdsmen were said to have shot continuously at the residence of the Rector, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Atsue, and beaten up one Rev. Fr. Stephen Bakari.
Eyewitnesses said the windscreen of one of the vehicles belonging to one of the priests was smashed, while the herdsmen shot and injured one Rev. Fr. Cornelius Kobah in the leg.
As at Tuesday, some of the students attacked by the herdsmen are still in the hospital while the priests are calling on Nigerians to pray for them against the attack.
