Confusion Over Who Becomes Ogun Governor
Nigeria News takes a look at the double role the Ogun State Governor is playing as the country prepares for another general election.
The defection of some key Ogun State PDP leaders to the APC is being
Unfortunately, what brought about the near-death situation of the PDP in Ogun State today is being facilitated by Amosun himself within the APC. Mr Governor, driven by the same ego that forced his predecessor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to initiate the PPN vs PDP divide towards the 2011 elections, is working towards the same result, naively believing that the circumstances have changed.
However, despite the opposing beliefs, one should salute Amosun’s efforts in bringing these men into the APC. That is what everyone should be doing – evangelizing, by bringing the lost and the doubtful Thomases into the APC. Numbers and key figures matter in an election like this. The more, the merrier. In fact, the more, the less work you need to do on Election Day in certain places.
But the danger is still lurking around the governor himself unless he has a change of heart before the gubernatorial election so that the whole of APC in Ogun State can speak with one voice in ensuring that Prince Dapo Abiodun takes off from where he’ll stop on 29 May 2019.
It was gathered that some hoodlums had been removing the posters of Adekunle Akinlade on major roads and streets of Ogun State on the instruction of Mr Governor.
Does this mean that the governor is not working for the Allied Peoples Movement and by extension Akinlade anymore?
There is a need for Amosun to understand that the election timetable does not favour the gubernatorial poll in that the electorate will follow the presidential trend.
Except President Muhammadu Buhari loses the February 16 election, there is high hope that the electorate in Ogun State will vote for Dapo Abiodun of APC.
Akinlade is boastful anyway. In one of the
Recalled that Amosun, with the help of the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu crippled the political power of the former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba with this same strategy.
This might be pay-back time for Amosun. He is so close to Buhari and it is unfortunate that those who are the president’s close allies are the one working against his party.
The campaign train of Buhari will arrive Lagos on Saturday for a mega rally and this may lead the president to Abeokuta, Ogun State. Will Amosun be invited to the podium to speak? He is supposed to be one of the hosts in Lagos on Saturday but his anti-party activities will deprive him of that.
One could see how quiet he was at the APC rallies in Ondo and Ekiti.
