Copyright Saga, Timi Dakolo vs Majek Fashek: Timi Presents Documents To Prove He Paid To Remix Song
A legal battle has been brewing for quite a while between veteran reggae superstar Majek Fashek and Timi Dakolo over the remix of his popular hit song, “Send down the rain”, without legal rights from Majek Fashek himself.
This led the “rain maker” to slam Timi Dakolo with a N100 million lawsuit for releasing the remix without his permission.
Earlier on, Timi had insisted that he spoke with Majek and his representatives and paid the sum of N500,000 to him, his management, November Records and his representatives to remix the song.
Timi has now released evidence of that payment as he presented the documents to newsmen dated June 12, 2012 in which it is stated that he paid the sum of N500,000 as part payment for the copyright lease of the song ‘Send down the rain’.
Charles Novia represented Majek for the said deal and he has also confirmed that Timi made such a payment and that he represented Majek in that particular transaction.
Majek has been in and out of rehabilitation and is trying to make a comeback to the musical scene but it hasn’t gone so well with reports of relapse into his former lifestyle of drugs as well as issues with a former benefactor, billionaire Emami Ayiri.
