Dr Oby Ezekwesili To Sue FG Over Police Harassment
Former Minister of Education and the founder of Red Card Movement, Dr Oby Ezekwesili has threatened to sue the Federal Government for infringing on her fundamental human rights.
She made threat while launching Lagos chapter of the Red Card Movement group at Tejuosho Market in Lagos on Sunday.
Ezekwesili was manhandled by security operatives during a protest by her group to the Presidential Villa, Abuja last week.
The former minister said that she may institute a legal action against the government due to the incessant infringement by the security agents on her rights.
She said, “The government cannot suppress the voice of the citizens. The government is making a mistake to think it could do that. The constitutional rights of citizens to free movement, assembly, expression cannot be taken by anyone including the government.”
She said that the government had no right to stop her movement because she had not broken any law and that she would continue to air her voice as expected in the democratic system.
According to her, there is the need to fix the leadership problem in Nigeria, adding that it is obvious that neither of the political parties in the country now could solve the problem.
