Drop All Charges Against Me, Kanu Tells Osinbajo
Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu has called on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to drop all the charges against him.
He said at a news conference that his agitation for Biafra is self-determination agenda of IPOB and that it is not unconstitutional.
Recalled that Osinbajo had described the agitation as unconstitutional when he met with elders and traditional rulers from the Southeast recently.
At the news conference, addressed by Kanu’s lawyers, the IPOB leader called on the Federal Government to withdrawal the five-count charge against him and other IPOB members immediately.
According to him, IPOB and its leaders have not committed any offence against the law of the land, adding “Osinbajo’s view about Biafra was “patently misconceived and inherently faulty,” despite his rank as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
In a statement by his lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu insisted that “extra judicial remarks” Osinbajo made before the Igbo Council of Traditional Rulers, in reference to Biafran agitation, was offensive to section 2 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The IPOB leader said that Osinbajo’s threat of arrest is against the constitution and the fundamental human rights of people who are only agitating for self-determination.
