EFCC May Arraign Recalled Judge Over Alleged N90m Bribe

There are strong indications that one of the judges recalled by the National Judicial Council may be facing charges bordering on bribery Tuesday.

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla disclosed this to our correspondent, adding that the judge (Names withheld) allegedly collected N90 million as gratification from about 100 lawyers.

According to him, the EFCC may arraign the judge before the court on Tuesday, all things being equal.

Obono-Obla stated that the judge was suspended because he had pending cases before the court but was surreptitiously recalled by the NJC.

“The judge will be charged. He was deliberately cleared by the NJC. But now, we have established a case of receiving gratification from 100 lawyers against him.

According to him, the lawyers would be charged along with the judge for giving bribes.

On June 1, the NJC recalled six out of eight judges it suspended since October 2016 over allegations of bribery and corruption.

The judges included Justice Musa Kurya of the Federal High Court, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Justice Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court, Justice Uwani Abba Aji of the Court of Appeal, Justice Agbadu James Fishim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and Justice Hydiazira Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court.
