Ekiti Monarch Stabbed To Death
The Onise of Odo-Oro Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin, was stabbed by a man considered to be mentally-unstable while he was walking from a Council Meeting with Traditional Chiefs to enter his car to his personal House.
Oba Ogunsakin had spent 32 years on the throne before the unexpected murder. The Ekiti command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) confirmed the incident.
A resident said the assailant was from the same royal family as the slain traditional ruler. The report quoted as saying the assailant was earlier seen before the council meeting sitting on the throne and was chased away.
Residents narrated that they heard a cry for help from the traditional ruler’s driver shortly after the council meeting. And on getting there, they saw the traditional ruler in a pool of his blood with a knife in the chest.
They tried rushing him to the hospital, but Oba Ogunsakin gave up the ghost. According to the report, some irate youths in the community took to the streets in search of the assailant who was said to have fled into the bush after the incident.
The youths later mounted roadblock as they continued to search for the killer of their monarch.
