El-Rufai Succumbs To Teachers, Rescinds Sack Order
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir EL-Rufai has succumbed to the striking public primary school teachers in the State as he reverses the decision to sack the teachers.
The teachers had refused to resume work, following the sack of about 20, 000 of them that failed the state competency test last year.
However, the government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers met on Thursday where it was resolved that the decision be reversed and the teachers suspended their indefinite strike.
The chairman of the state chapter of the union, Mr Audi Amba, issued the order to resume work, immediately after an emergency meeting of the state executive council in Kaduna, the state capital.
It was gathered that the governor agreed to give second chance to the sacked teachers for recruitment into the teaching service.
He stated that the union would give support to the government to provide quality education and would not jeopardise the future of the young pupils.
Amba said, “We are happy that over 21, 000 teachers that failed the competency test would be given another opportunity, according to the governor for recruitment and whosoever that scale through would join the teaching service.”
In the light of this, the NUT chairman called on all teachers to go back to the classroom and give their best to education development in Kaduna.
