Engage Niger Delta Avengers Now, MAN Tells Buhari
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to engage in dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) before the group will carry out its threat.
The Avengers had released a press statement to resume the fresh attack on oil installations and facilities in the Niger Delta region soon, following the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it signed with it.
According to the statement by NDA’s spokesman, Murdoch Agbinibo, NDA said that it would resume the attack since the intervention by Chief Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta Forum had not worked.
In his comment, the President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr Frank Jacobs, called on the government to quickly take a step of dialogue now, adding that any attack on oil facilities would wreck the economy.
MAN President explained, “It is unfortunate if that is what the NDA wants to do, especially at this time that the economy is getting out of recession when oil production is becoming steady and price of oil is going up.”
He urged the government not to allow such attack to happen as it would deal a terrible blow to the economy that is gradually coming out of recession.
