Ex-Plateau Governor Dariye Weeps As Court Jails Him for 14 Years
The former Governor of Plateau State broke into tears on Tuesday as Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja sentenced him to 14 years in prison over misappropriation of the state funds.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital High Court, sentenced former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, to fourteen years in prison for criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds.
Dariye was charged for allegedly diverting N1.1 Billion Naira while in office between 1999 and 2007.
Justice Banjoko, in a six-and-a-half-hour judgment, convicted the ex-governor on 15 out the 23 count charge of criminal breach of trust against punishable under the Penal Code.
Eight of the twenty-three charges were thrown out for lack of sufficient evidence.
The former governor was found guilty of diverting eighty million naira belonging to the state to the Peoples Democratic Party, and another One hundred million Naira to a private company.
Today’s sentence is coming few weeks after the former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame, was jailed fourteen years for fraud by the same Judge.
