Fail Efforts; Buratai’s Thesis of Excuse

By  |

Nigeria News takes a look at the various failed efforts of the government to kick out Boko Haram.

I have expected President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the service chiefs long ago, going by their inability to stop the menace of Boko Haram insurgency.

The terrorists are daily slaughtering our soldiers while Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Turkur Buratai has not stopped giving excuses. With the situation of things, it looks as if some military brass are bloodsucking demons who derive pleasure from the killings of the Nigerian troops by the Boko Haram.

Of course, one is not writing off sabotage. That is why Buhari must take a critical look inward to redress the security situation in the country.

There is a need for modern war weapons to combat the new crime facing the country now. Kidnappers in the guise of herdsmen are increasing in number and they cover themselves with the thick tropical rain forest of the southwest now.

Buratai should know that the Number One problem of soldiers involved in the campaign against Boko Haram is low morale. This low morale has NOTHING to do with his allegation of poor fighting spirit.

There is an intelligence that some of the kidnappers might be members of Boko Haram who had renounced their membership but are now looking for ways to sustain themselves.

The soldiers are not just ready to fight the insurgents again due to poor welfare package and failure by the government to pay them their allowances.

It is unheard of those soldiers fighting a war hardly get their allowances on time, if at all. The question of poor healthcare services remain, with a number of soldiers bleeding to death since it often takes time to get emergency medical attention. Back up/reinforcement is very key in a war like this. It is as important as quality Intelligence. Both are almost zero.

What about captured soldiers. Since the campaign against Boko Haram began, I am yet to read a story of prompt search and rescue operation to get back our men from Boko Haram. In virtually all cases, these brave men are regularly beheaded by Boko Haram with enough time to capture the gruesome act on videos, which are then posted online for the world to see.

Buratai should resign. That is the least expected of him instead of this ungodly outburst against soldiers, who get killed everyday while a number of their superiors, who should kit and provide for them keep buying up properties in Dubai and elsewhere.

Just last week, we got an insight into Buratai’s technological innovation about modern warfare. Amateur drones, which Photographers and others have more than enough of is what Buratai’s Nigerian Army deployed against kidnappers in Osun and Ondo States.

We have been saying it for long, Buratai should be allowed to go and rest. The man has no business leading our Army today! The social media platforms were agog with the Nigeria drone and American drones on display.

It is sad that in this 21st century, Nigeria could only procure toy drone to fight criminality.
