Fashola Commends Buhari As FG Signs $5.792bn Contract Mambilla Power Project
The Federal government has signed a contract agreement for the joint venture with three Chinese firms to begin work on the 3,050megawatts hydropower project worth over $5.792 billion (about N2.096 trillion) in Taraba State.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babtunde Fashola signed the agreement on behalf of the government in Abuja on Tuesday as he commended the leadership quality of President Muhammadu Buhari for making it a reality.
He described the project as a new dawn in the nation’s power diversity and energy needs, adding that when it is completed, it would provide plenty energy for the country.
As he put it, “The project will also give us opportunity for compliance with Paris climate change agreement because it will be delivering renewable energy while it will give us an opportunity to unlock the gift of nature to Nigeria in Taraba.”
According to him, the Mambilla project has been abandoned for almost 40 years but the present administration of Buhari has come to rescue it.
He explained that the project after completion would not only provide much of the needed energy but would attract investors to the country and also promote the tourist activities in the area.
