FG Has Not Paid Ailing Ekwueme Entitlements Since 2015
The ailing former Vice President Dr Alex Ekwueme has not received his entitlements from the Federal Government since 2015, a family source has said.
The member of the family who refused to mention her name said this while the elder statesman was being airlifted to London for medical treatment on Sunday.
The visibly angry source told our correspondent that the government had also reneged its pledge to fund the medical bills of Ekwueme and that the best it could do was the provision of aircraft to transport the man.
According to the source, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari told the Ekwueme’s family that the best the government could do now was to help take the former vice president out of the country for medicals.
“The FG has transferred Ekwueme’s case to Anambra State Government to take charge of the funding,” the source stated.
She explained that the family would be ready to take care of the elder statesman but expressed her displeasure with the attitude of the Federal Government over the ailing ex-vice president.
“At least, they should pay his entitlements even if they are not ready to fund his medical bill,” she stated.
