FG Traces IPOB Sponsors To France As Court Proscribes Group
The Federal Government said on Wednesday that it has traced those funding the Indigenous People of Biafra to France.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who revealed this at a news conference in Abuja also added that some public treasury looters in Nigerians funded IPOB.
Meanwhile the Federal High Court in Abuja has proscribed the activities of IPOB in every part of the country, especially in the southeast and South-south.
The Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, granted the order proscribing the group on Wednesday.
He stated that the activities of the group is illegal and amounts to terrorism.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), with the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, appeared before Justice Kafarati for the Federal Government.
According to Malami, the approval by the government that IPOB is a terrorist group has been sanction today by the court.
“This implies that it becomes illegal for any group to parade itself as IPOB or any individual involving in such illegality,” he said.
On where the IPOB got its funding, Mohammed said that the government had discovered that chunks of the funds came from France like money transferred from children to their fathers.
“Government can block the flow of the money but has not done it because it looks like a fund being wired by children to their fathers,” he said.
