FG’ll Reveal IPOB Financial Details To France – Source
The Federal Government has said that it will reveal the financial details of sponsors of the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB to the French Government.
A source told our correspondent that the Central Bank and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence unit had been directed to prepare the details and make a copy available to France.
During the week, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had alleged that much of the funds that the IPOB was using had come from some sponsors in France.
In a swift reaction through its embassy in Nigeria, the French Government denied the allegation as it urged the Federal Government to provide details of the funds transfer.
However, the source said that the Federal Government had not alleged French Government but the sponsors of IPOB in France.
“Nobody is accusing France of sponsoring terrorists. The Nigerian Government claim is that some people send money to IPOB in Nigeria from France,” the source said.
Meanwhile the Federal Government would also write the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering, which is tasked with the mandate of supervising, monitoring and regulating Designated Non-Financial Institutions as regards compliance to Nigeria’s Anti-Money Laundering and tackling the Financing of Terrorism.
