Five (5) Killed, 50 House Razed In Kogi Communal Clash
The communal clash between Bassa Kwomu and Igala of Aloko-Oguma in the Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi has claimed five lives with several houses burnt by the warring factions.
The clash, which began on Friday, according to eyewitnesses led to the razing of 50 houses while no fewer than five people were killed.
According to sources, the clash was a reprisal attack by the Igala people who claimed that the Bassa Kwomu people killed one of their members and buried him secretly without a trace of the grave.
“That was why the Igala mobilized themselves and killed five Bassa Kwomu people and burnt down about 50 houses in the community,” a source said.
Meanwhile, there are fears that Bassa Kwomu people might retaliate as sources in the area told our correspondent that the community was angered and presently preparing for a reprisal attack.
The Sole Administrator of the local government area, Samuel Alumka, and the House of Assembly member representing the area, Sunday Shigaba who visited the community on Friday, called on the people to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, who confirmed the incident, however, said only one old woman was killed in the fracas.
