Forbes Names Dangote, Adenuga Among Top 3 Richest Men in Africa
World leading financial aggregators, Forbes has released a list of this years richest people in the world and two Nigerians have been named amongst the top 3 richest men in Africa.
Africa’s richest man and top of the list, Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote was number one on the list while Mike Adenuga was named as the third richest man on the continent by Forbes magazine.
According to the business magazine, Aliko Dangote made the top of the list with a net worth of $12.2 billion as at Monday, March 20th 2017 while Adenuga, chairman of mobile telecommunication giant Globacom made the list at number 3 with $6.1 billion.
The magazine also stated that the total number of billionaires on the continent rose marginally to 25 from last year’s figure of 24.
The top 25 who made the list are drawn from eight African countries namely, Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Morocco, Swaziland and Tanzania.
It was also noted that two Nigerian businessmen dropped off the list, Femi Otedola and Abdulsamad Rabiu which Forbes explained by saying that it happened due to the economic downturn in the country which was evident in the plunge in the price of oil and commodities.
