The Senate has summoned the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Mainkanti Baru.

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki instructed the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) to put an end to its recess so that it could meet with stakeholders in the oil sector.

This is in a bid to address the lingering fuel crisis that has entered the second week across the country, Saraki said on Thursday.

Reacting, the Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, said that the committee had since summoned Kachikwu and Baru.

He also stated that relevant stakeholders in the oil sector had been invited to a meeting scheduled for January 4, 2018.

He added that the meeting, which will be held in the Senate Hearing Room 221 and its proceedings aired live on the Nigerian Television Authority.

He stated that the committee would find out the real cause of the fuel scarcity and together with the stakeholders proffer a lasting solution to the problem.

The Senate, which is presently on combined Christmas and New Year break, is charged to resume committee duty for the defence of the 2018 budget on January 9, and commence plenary on January 16.
