Funke Olakunrin: Troubled Nation, Innocent But Gullible Citizens
Nigeria News takes a look at the manner at which Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was killed.
It is so sad that Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader is the latest casualty of insecurity in Nigeria.
She was killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Friday, according to the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin.
But the account of her death showed that she must have been attacked by a special killer squad along Ore-Ondo Road.
The kidnappers, according to the narrative of her driver waylaid Olakunrin and five others in a SUV car but could not lay hands on any of them.
The driver made a U-turn but the killers shot repeatedly at the car, killing Olakunrin in the process. Her brother said she was the only one that died in the incident because she lost too much blood.
This is not how herdsmen operate. This is a case of banditry or real assassination but yet the news by Afenifere spokesman confirmed that herdsmen killed Fasoranti’s daughter.
The police also said that it was a case of armed robbery attack.
Either way, an innocent woman had been killed. She paid the price of dirty politics in Nigeria at present. It sounds ridiculous that the political elites, rather than speaking about the state of insecurity are now trading blames on which of the dangerous killer groups had killed Olakunrin.
National insecurity has been narrowed down to herdsmen in the name of politics. The Afenifere itself is a divided organi
The roles of Afenifere leaders of the various factions in the current political dispensation should be questioned. There is another faction, the Afenifere Renewal Group.
There is Pa Ayo Fasanmi-led group and the Fasoranti-led group. All of them claiming to represent the Yoruba ethnic interest, yet they are divided along party lines.
There are forces who do not want this present government and there are millions of youths who have turned to kidnappers because they are jobless.
With the government’s ineptitude about insecurity, crime has become a lucrative business.
Of course, suspected herdsmen cannot be totally exonerated over the death of Olakunrin, what matters most now is how to apprehend the suspects
Who killed the innocent woman?
The blame game over who are backing herdsmen should stop while the effort to fortify security in the southwest should be put in place by all stakeholders.
Fasoranti is bereaved. He wants justice not the debate on the group that killed his beloved daughter.

First, it was the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Afenifere leader, Chief Olu Falae that was kidnapped by herdsmen, now, it is the daughter of Fasoranti that had been killed.
Death has become so cheap in this country. Nobody is secured and instead of the citizens to fight a common enemy of insecurity against the government, the politicians are using the crime to sell their personal agenda.
The politicians set and sell their own agenda, the citizens must be careful with the news that the political elites are putting to the public.
They work on our emotion to drive home their self-interest agenda. The police should be allowed to do their job, fish out Olakunrin’s killer and let justice be done.
