Gana, Adeniran Leave PDP, Join SDP
Two prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Board of Trustees, Professor Jerry Gana and the former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran have defected to the Social Democratic Party.
Adeniran disclosed this at the weekend, adding that he quit PDP because the party lacked internal democracy and had now moved with all his supporters to SDP.
He said, “It may interest you to know that the former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana has also moved to SDP.”
Adeniran who was an aspirant for the PDP national chairmanship was defeated by Prince Uche Secondus at the party’s last national convention.
Since he lost the seat to Secondus, the professor had refused to associate himself with the PDP until he announced on Saturday that he had left the party.
He stated that it became imperative to leave PDP because of the politics of imposition of candidates, which he could not stand.
However, the national chairman of PDP, Prince Secondus has expressed regret that Adeniran left the party.
He said that the professor was one of the founding fathers of the party and that his experience would have been of immense help for the party as it prepares to take power from the ruling APC.
“I expected Professor Adeniran to join me to move PDP forward but he chose to leave,” Secondus said.
