Gunmen Kill 11, Injure 12 in Plateau

Eleven persons have been killed and twelve others left with a different degree of injuries after unidentified gunmen attacked Lopandyet, a peaceful community near Rayfield in JOS the Plateau state capital in an overnight attack.

The spokesman of the Plateau state police command DSP Mathias Tyopev who confirmed the incident said the attackers stormed the community on Tuesday night before attacking unsuspecting residents.

As at the time our correspondent visited the scene of the attack, there was tension in the area as sympathisers gathered to discuss what transpired while corpses were being evacuated.

It was gathered that two out of the 12 injured persons died while they were being taken to the hospital.

The Plateau State Police Command said that investigation had started to fish out the killers and that justice would be done.

Our correspondent gathered that the killers were cattle rustlers who had been tormenting the area over a long time.

“Our husbands are being killed regularly by these cattle rustlers. We call on the government to help us. We are helpless, these gunmen always terrorise us,” a woman who identified herself as Grace said.
